Also known as: Inositol-stabilized arginine silicate, ASI, Arginine silicate inositol
Branded IngredientsGood evidence
A patented arginine compound bonded to silicon and stabilised with inositol, sold for blood flow and pump. Genuinely different from plain arginine, and its main claim over citrulline is duration rather than magnitude.

What it is
Nitrosigine is a patented complex of arginine, silicon and inositol. The silicate bond and the inositol stabilisation are what distinguish it from ordinary arginine, which is poorly absorbed and largely degraded before it can do anything.
That matters because plain arginine is a poor supplement. If you have read the L-Arginine entry, you will know its problem is first-pass metabolism. Nitrosigine is an attempt to engineer around that.
The silicon component is not incidental. Silicon has its own role in connective tissue and vascular structure, and the manufacturer proposes it contributes to arterial flexibility alongside the arginine's nitric oxide effect.
How it works
The arginine component feeds nitric oxide production, widening blood vessels and increasing blood flow to working muscle. This is the same endpoint citrulline reaches, by a different route.
The stabilised complex is absorbed more efficiently than free arginine and raises plasma arginine measurably. The manufacturer's data indicates elevation lasting several hours, which is the specific claim over citrulline: longer duration rather than a higher peak.
Silicon is proposed to support the structural flexibility of vessel walls, a slower structural effect distinct from the acute vasodilation. That part is more speculative than the arginine mechanism.
What the evidence shows
Trials have reported increased blood flow, improved cognitive performance after exercise, and reduced markers of muscle damage, with plasma arginine remaining elevated for several hours after a single dose.
The consistent caveat with branded ingredients applies here in full: the large majority of this research is funded by or affiliated with the patent holder, and independent replication is limited. That does not make the findings wrong, but it does mean they should be weighted accordingly.
Compared with citrulline, which has a broad independent evidence base, Nitrosigine is the more speculative purchase. It is clearly better than plain arginine; whether it beats citrulline is not established by independent work.
Dosing
The dose used across essentially all the research is 1,500 mg daily, taken 30 to 60 minutes before training.
The manufacturer's data suggests effects build with consistent daily use over a week or two rather than being purely acute, so daily dosing on rest days as well is the intended pattern.
It is frequently combined with citrulline in pre-workouts, which is coherent since they act through different points in the same pathway. If budget is limited, citrulline at 6 to 8 g is the better-evidenced foundation and Nitrosigine the addition on top.

Safety and side effects
Nitrosigine has been well tolerated in the trials conducted, with few adverse effects reported and better digestive tolerability than high-dose plain arginine.
Safety assessments have not identified concerns at the standard dose, though as with most branded ingredients those assessments come largely from the same source as the efficacy research.
Because it promotes vasodilation, take care if your blood pressure is being managed. Speak to your doctor before use if you take anything affecting blood pressure or circulation.
Who should avoid it
